Since 2001, Cloudride has been standing in the musical landscape like a rock in the sea. No trendy hypocrisy, no hype, just pure sincerity. In the middle, Axel Rüst’s powerful voice and his pensive and profound lyrics are in the center of Cloudride’s music. Over the years, their music has turned edgier, more creative and more independent.

Somewhere between Indie, Post-Rock and Pop, Cloudride make their own way. Sweet melancholy and wide soundscapes mix with hymnal and catchy refrains. Their lyrics are full of gloomy insights, but always contain a spark of of hope.

With their new EP (yet untitled; recorded with Philipp Laffer; release October 2013) Cloudride keeps up their good work. The band has retreated to their rehearsal room for two years to elaborate new songs. Six of their new songs will be retained on the coming EP. Apart from their two single-releases in 2010 (“Stand Still” and “Empty Sheets”) this new EP will be the first publication since 2008 (“Vincent”).

Cloudride have always tried to be innovative to spread their name and their music. For their debut “Overlooked” in 2006, they hung up 1000 posters all over the city with the line “I should be happy, but I’m not” and they made 10.000 copies of their EP “Vincent” to give away for free, something which was retained in Marc Krebs’ book “Pop Basel”.

The new EP shows that Cloudride has matured over the years. Cloudride are not young anymore and they want to be titled as a young band. They always keep on looking for new songs, sounds and song arrangement which are catchy without being dull or pushy. Being radio friendly was not once considered when recording at the “Alterna Recording Studios”. Cloudride’s music is supposed to make people think. There will not be any compromises. The song defines where the listener is supposed to be taken.

Cloudride have had over 100 concerts so far and, thus, they have become a rock-solid live act. They have won several prices (e.g. “Sprungbrett”, “Break Out”) and supported acts like “The Cooper Temple Clause”, “Amplifier”, “Chikinki” and “Disco Ensemble”. They have also toured Europe abroad with “Amplifier “ in 2007, played an acoustic tour in Belgium in 2008 and had several concerts in Germany in 2009.

Wie ein Fels in der Brandung stehen Cloudride seit 2001 in der Musiklandschaft. Keine modischen Verkrümmungen, kein Hype, viel Ehrlichkeit. Im Zentrum der Musik steht die kraftvolle Stimme von Axel Rüst sowie seine nachdenklichen und tiefsinnigen Songs. Über die Jahre gewann die Musik immer mehr an Konturen, Eigenständigkeit und Kreativität.

Irgendwo zwischen Indie, Postrock und Pop gehen Cloudride ihren eigenen Weg. Die Musik ist voller Dynamik. Cloudride vermischen leise Melancholie und weite Soundlandschaften mit hymnischen und eingängigen Refrains. Dabei enthalten die Texte gewiss eine Fülle düsterer Einsichten, nicht ohne aber in entscheidenden Momenten einen Schimmer Hoffnung erkennen zu lassen.

Mit der neuen EP (noch ohne Titel; aufgenommen von Philippe Laffer; Release im Oktober 2013) setzen Cloudride ihrem bisherigen Schaffen die Krone auf. Zwei Jahre hat sich die Band zurückgezogen, um neue Songs zu erarbeiten. Sechs dieser neuen Songs sind nun auf der EP dokumentiert. Abgesehen von zwei vielbeachteten Singles („Stand Still“ und „Empty Sheets“ in 2010) wird diese EP die erste Veröffentlichung der Band seit 2008 („Vincent“). Zuvor hatten Cloudride bereits mit dem Debütalbum „Overlooked“ (2006, Helium Records) auf sich aufmerksam gemacht.

Cloudride haben schon immer eigene innovative Ideen versucht, um ihren Namen unter die Leute zu brigen. So haben sie für „Overlooked“ in einer Nacht- und Nebelaktion an die 1000 Plakate mit der Songzeile „I should be happy, but I’m not“ aufgehängt und von Vincent liessen sie 10‘000 Kopien pressen, um diese dann unter den Leuten zu verteilen, was ihnen Sympathien und auch einen Eintrag in Marc Krebs Buch „Pop Basel“ bescherte.

Die neue EP zeugt von der Reife der Band. Man mag Cloudride nicht mehr als jung bezeichnen und Cloudride mögen nicht mehr als jung bezeichnet werden. Was bleibt ist die Suche nach Songs, Sounds und Arrangements, die hängen bleiben ohne jemals plump oder aufdringlich zu sein. Das Wort „radiotauglichkeit“ wurde bei den Aufnahmen in den „Alterna Recording Studios“ nicht in den Mund genommen. Die Musik von Cloudride soll zum Denken anregen. Es werden keine Kompromisse gemacht. Der Song bestimmt wo es hingehen soll.

Die neue EP soll Cloudride wieder vermehrt auf die Bühne bringen. Der Rückzug, die Besinnung, das vertiefte Schaffen – fertig. Nun will die Band aus dem Proberaum und der Welt diese EP vorstellen!

Durch hartnäckige Arbeit und weit über 100 Konzerte haben sich Cloudride zu einem soliden und überzeugenden Liveact entwickelt, was ihnen in der Schweiz mehrere Newcomer-Preise bescherte („Sprungbrett“, „Break Out“) und sie mit Bands wie „The Cooper Temple Clause“, „Amplifier“, „Chikinki“ und „Disco Ensemble“ auf die Bühne brachte.

Cloudride wollten sich schon immer auch im Ausland ihre Sporen abverdienen. So ist die 14-tägige Europatournee gemeinsam mit der britischen Band „Amplifier“ im Jahr 2007 eines der Highlights in der Bandgeschichte. Ausserdem spielte man in Belgien eine Acoustic-Tour (2008) und mehrere Konzerte in Deutschland (2009).
